Showdown hit NYC!

Showdown members were thrilled on their trip to USA to have dinner with star of film and Broadway ‘Tracie Thoms’.  Tracie, who starred in RENT both on stage and in the film, spent an evening with our cast, giving tips on characters for our next production of RENT, answering questions, taking photo’s and just generally having fun in NYC.  We can not thank her enough for taking the time out of her busy schedule and we all wish her the best of luck in her next project ‘Stick Fly’ on Broadway.  Showdown loves Tracie!!

Cut Footloose!

Showdown didn’t think they could top everything they had done this year so far however the success of Footloose was a great achievement and an even better way to mark the end of the summer term, Guildford members produced a fantastic show, with great reviews from audiences, one audience member emailed in to say ‘We booked the show thinking it was the professional Footloose tour that had been showing in the main theatre, we turned up all the way from Bracknell and thought ‘uh oh what have we done here’ but by 5 minutes in we were absolutely flabbergasted at the standard of these young performers and enjoyed every second, we told all our friends it is a must see and my son will be trying out in September!’ that’s what we call great feedback and we also enjoyed every second of show week! Bring on the next shows...

Showdown goes International...

Showdown Theatre Arts have waved goodbye to their new friends from Baltimore School For the Arts this week after spending 8 days together rehearsing and performing ‘The Exonerated’ based on the true story of 6 innocent people sent to Death Row, the show received great reviews from audiences and the individual performances from the cast aged 15-19 were outstanding.  The whole project has proven what talent both academies have and they are training the future of British and American theatre.  The exchange programme has gone so well and had such an impact on both casts that Showdown have now been confirmed as the permanent British partners for this event, not only does this mean they can offer this opportunity to young people in Surrey and West Sussex every year, UK casts will also be returning to Baltimore to perform out there, principal Carli Jones says ‘During the week I witnessed this experience have a huge impact on these young individuals, not only as performers but as people, they created friendships for life and they will share those memories forever.  Experiencing each other cultures and rehearsing in this intensive format is a real taste of the focus and determination needed to train and work professionally in this industry’.  Showdown Theatre Arts will now look to find funding for the return journey of the exchange.
